Nima Khak - Empire Over Matter
In 1877, an Italian astronomer, Giovanni Schiaparelli, claimed to have seen Canali on the surface of Mars. This was later misinterpreted in English as canal, a word implying intelligent design. This fueled a great interest in space and the question of life on Mars. In 1897, H.G Wells released the science fiction classic "War of the worlds". In 1938, one year after the birth of american astronomer and astrophysicist Carl Sagan, Orson Welles narrated a radio adaptation of The War of the Worlds, that created a mass panic in America due to its authentic news bulletin like style. Through out the second half of the twentieth century, Carl Sagan spent his life researching and teaching, allowing many people a better understanding of the cosmos, the values of the human race as well as the relative insignificance of the Earth in comparison to the universe. In 1976, the Viking 1 lander touched down on the surface of Mars and instantly began transmitting video images back to Earth. The lander conducted scientific experiments and was able to dig with its robotic arm into the martian soil. However, the results initially showed no signs of life. Sagan later argued in his famous TV show Cosmos a Personal Voyage that by realizing the thoughts of canal systems on Mars, water from the polar caps could be led to the warmer equatorial regions to enable life on Mars. In 1996 Carl Sagan passed away and on July 5, 1997, the landing site of the unmanned Mars Pathfinder spacecraft was renamed the Carl Sagan Memorial Station. On April 12, 2012, an international team of scientists reported studies, based on experiments of the 1976 Viking Mission, that may suggest the detection of "extant microbial life on Mars."
Kimono - Code Of Conduct
Through out history, there has a been a growth of intellectual thoughts, thoughts that makes us different from other living creatures. Among those thoughts, we see familiar rules of moral and ethics in many historical contexts such as in law and religion, among warriors and even pirates. These sets of rules often have the intent to give humans a guidance in life but also shed light on our own responsibilities. Sometimes, these honor codes seems to have the purpose of enhancing the moral aspect of an even deeper unethical situation such as a soldier might find himself in. Going back in history, we can see that the ideas are not new and that the intellectuals of ancient societies have tried to lived by a generic set of ethical codes and thereby reaching a higher and uplifted level in life. Rules such as the Ten Commandments found in the Bible or the Ten Precepts in Taoism. In almost every kind of religion you will find these codes similar to each other. In the Moral Code of Communism you will find the political equivalent of these codes, all though these codes speaks in terms of the relation of a person to the society, rather than in terms of personal virtues. The most common of all rules known today is the Golden Rule. It is one of the first philosophical ideas known to mankind and has existed for thousands of years: One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. A more intriguing code of conduct governing pirates is the article II of captain John Phillips: If any Man shall offer to run away, or keep any Secret from the Company, he shall be marooned with one Bottle of Powder, one Bottle of Water, one small Arm, and Shot.
Jesper Dahlbck - Alright
My childhood was, from what i understand now as a grown up, not so bad after all. I had the possibility to do pretty much what i wanted as long as i didn't hurt anyone or myself for that matter. I had some friends, some of them i would consider my best friends ever, although now i haven't seen them in years. We grew up thinking we were going to change the world and fight the stupidity that had seemed to hit any one who was old enough to grow facial hair. We went out at night doing stupid things thinking it was for the best of society, because society just didn't understand. My parents taught me what they knew but I'm not sure how it affected my way of thinking as an adult. In many ways, my childhood shaped me into the person i am but also what i haven't become. I live life far from poverty and political unrest but i sometimes think about what i would do under different circumstances or who i would be. I guess I'm lucky enough not having to think too much about it. From my perspective as an adult, i guess my childhood was alright.
ISLR019 ADJD - Guts To Move
ISLR019 ADJD - Guts To Move International Sound Laboratory is proud to present the next development in audio technology, a long awaited co-production between Alexi Delano and Jesper Dahlbäck. The release consists of material recorded live at the ISL head quarters at Globe Studios Stockholm. Their process consists of the formation, deformation and accumulation of sounds produced solely and purely under the influence of heavy coffee dosage. In fact, the studio caters a wide range of different kitchen appliances for creating a perfect cup of coffee. From a soft and smooth watery coffee via the heavier taste sensation of the Swedish electric percolator to the extreme intensity of the piece de resistance, the Italian espresso machine. Not to forget, the kitchen also includes a special coffee grinder capable of grinding beans to perfectly match each machine and purpose. The worlds top consumer of coffee beans is the people in Finland, closely followed by swedes and Norwegians. In Sweden, an average amount of 150 metric litres is consumed each year. About 6 480 million kg of coffee beans is consumed world wide every year, generating some 103 223 million litres of coffee (8 g/cup 15cl).
ISLR018 Vicky Montefusco - The sleeper
ISLR018 Vicky Montefusco - The Sleeper The subject of sleep is still an area were science cannot always deliver all the answers. Researchers like to divide sleep into two states, REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and NREM (Non Rapid Eye Movement). Vivid and intense dreaming often occurs during the REM state and because of this, the REM state also help paralyse our muscles to prevent us from acting out our dreams physically while sleeping. Studies shows that dreams are caused by the random fire of neurons in the cerebral cortex during REM and this is why our dreams often may seem irrational and chaotic. Our brains then attempts to create a story that makes sense. Sigmund Freud stated in his theories that psychoanalysis was a way to unveil symbolic frustrations that patients experienced during sleep. Theories such as the Oedipus complex, explained the complicated sexual fixation on the mother of male infants. Sleeping patterns are shown to be different across cultures. The biggest differences can be seen in societies with artificial light, such as in the industrialised West and nomadic hunter societies where people will sleep on and off during the day depending on what is happening. In some cultures, people sleep on the ground, in other on elevated platforms or beds. This is all depending on different factors such as climate, protection from predators and pests. In the end of the day, we all know one thing for sure. No mather how much the fun, don't forget to sleep! Vicky Montefusco is the newest addition to the ISL label and "The Sleeper" is is debute release. Accompanying his three pieces are also a interpretation of long time ISL label artist and co worker, Jean-Louis Huhta aka Dungeon Acid.
ISLR017 Jesper Dahlbck - Episkt
The story begins somewhere far away from awareness and rational thought. Our main characters plays the roles of lost but not aimless arrows of pictures. Pictures made out of sub atomic movements, amplified through breathable air and finally fragmenting its energy into space. We see the the sun go down in the ocean, the purple and red colors and finally the majestic sight of whales plowing the water in the horizon. It has been many years, in fact, so many years that we are now back again to the same point time. It is like an infinite loop, never loosing pace and determination. Our characters is gathering on the beach, trying to find a place to rest but gets sucked right back in to a machine and then gets spit out again. The machine is a box, standing right in the sand, tirelessly pushing and pulling molecules back and forth. Our characters tries to withstand the pressure, making small rallies in different directions, like stupid soldiers without guns. Later, moon shows up with its happy smile. The war goes on. No prisoners taken. Suddenly, somebody points to the sky. Dawn arrives and the beach becomes calm for a while. It's epic.
ISLR016 Brommage Dub - Knowledge
The famous philosopher Plato once defined knowledge as justified, true and belief and that a statement must meet these three criteria in order to be considered knowledge. In the world of philosophy, knowledge or epistemology as it is called, is a controversial subject. In Bertrand Russell's "Theory of Knowledge" he states "The question how knowledge should be defined is perhaps the most important and difficult of the three with which we shall deal. This may seem surprising: at first sight it might be thought that knowledge might be defined as belief which is in agreement with the facts. The trouble is that no one knows what a belief is, no one knows what a fact is, and no one knows what sort of agreement between them would make a belief true." Knowledge can also be learnt from experience, such as trial and error to create highly situational knowledge. This is called "a posteriori", meaning afterwards. Throughout history, knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation through word of mouth. Today almost everybody has access to knowledge through the interweb and the amount of information increases exponentially every second.knowledge is also a weapon in politics . The less we know the easier it is to manipulate us. As Sir Francis Bacon said "knowledge is power". Brommage Dub is one half Jean-Louis Huhta, also known as Dungeon Acid, and the other half is Jesper Dahlbäck. This is their fifteenth year collaborating together as Brommage Dub, releasing material on labels such as Svek, AD Ltd and Rootknox as well as their own imprint Bromma. This release is licensed from the label Huhta Homestudio and was a vinyl only release via FIT distribution Detroit.
Cari Lekebusch - Svett EP
Sweat, also known as perspiration, transpiration or diaphoresis, is a product of mixing H2O with various solid chemicals such as chlorides and is mainly produced by glands located in the skin of mammals. It consists further of chemicals such as 2-methylphenol (o-cresol) and 4-methylphenol (p-cresol), as well as a small amount of urea. The sweat works as a thermoregulating mechanism, cooling the body from dangerous overheating, wich could result in body malfunction. It has also been reported that components inside the male perspiration would aslo work as a so called "chick-magnet". Sweat can be found in a wide variety of mammals, all though it is shown that only humans and horses produce large amounts of this chemical soup as a part of its cooling system and primarly by glands under the armpits. Studies has shown that men start their perspiration faster than women when exercising under the same relative intensity. If this proves the theory that men use their sweat as a tool for luring women into their bedrooms is yet to be shown. Speaking against the theory, would be the fact that most sweaty men smells bad. When sweat occurs, the bacteria residing on the skin, feeds of the chemicals and as a biproduct, a smelly odor is produced. Keeping in mind that sweat also is produced during states of nervousness, it is implied that sweaty dancing men fearing an embarrasing defeat after a displaying their shortcommings as part of the mating rituals, still enjoys a better chance of intercourse if the target female is exposed to the sweat odor. No study showed if the same case stands true for homosexuals.
ISLR014 Phonogenic - Kumia
Kumia is the title of the 13th release from International Sound Laboratory and is written and produced by ISL artist Tuomas Salmela aka Phonogenic. "Kumia" connects the sound of his previous release, "Artifacts" with the continuation of the latest developments from our Finnish collaboration laboratory in Tampere, Finland. This time we also sent a sample to specialist researcher Samuli Kemppi, who also is involved with heavy duty works on labels such as Luke Slater's Mote Evolver. Kumia, in its own word, describes the atmosphere and feeling of this release in a particular way. Without too much explanation, we're left with the sense of a statement of simplicity. The individual tracks may seem few of words at first, but after further investigation they unveil a complex story told through the typical sparse sounds of Tuomas Salmela. With few substantial elements, there is not much that needs explanation how ever. Each one of the tracks stands steady on a firm foundation of solid grooves, while the arrangements piece together each delicate detail perfectly, making it all something more than just the sum of its parts. The remix from Samuli Kemppi takes the concept even further by stripping the original to its fundamental core and then reconstruct Kumia with the signature of Samuli Kemppi's production style. Dark and driven, yet keeping the vibe of the original, Samuli's mix manages to make Kumia a journey into the past, present and future. Kumia, like a rubber ball, swings between sounds from past illigal ware house parties, making turns back into the future of unheard sound landscapes. In the end one thing is for sure, Kumia will always bounce back right to you!
ISLR012 Nima Khak - Beat Of Life Bonus Remixes
Addition to the ISLR012 Nima Khak - Beat Of Life including bonus remixes: Nima Khak - Deep Exploration (Alexi Delano Late Night Remix) Nima Khak - In My Path (On/Off Remix) Nima Khak - Beat Of Life (Dub Mix) Release Info: All throughout history, man has always been fascinated by the forces of nature and the human body. For many people, this fascination is as diverse as life it self. In some parts of the world, people worship mother earth for abundant harvests while in other parts of the world, a higher being that control our lives. In some parts, people worship the abstract thought of a fair and invisible force, who without feelings or sympathies for mankind, controls our lives with monetary instruments. Humans have been able to understand many fundamental rules and laws of the physical universe that surrounds us. This understanding is not always sufficient to explain other simple questions about our existence such as the strength and persistence of life itself, even under the most extreme conditions. Astronomers around the world seek answers by looking backwards in time through telescopic lenses, others seek answers through spiritual and religious experiences while most people seem to take life a little to much for granted. No matter how we perceive our selves in this reality, the only thing that seems to survive us all in the end, is life it self. This is the beat of life. This new release on International Sound Laboratories comes from Nima Khak, Swedish composer and artist previously known from labels such as Drumcode and H-Productions. The title track, "Beat Of Life" is based on an ultra sound recording of a small baby resting in her mothers belly. The hypnotic sound of the little heart pounding inside her mother, used as a driving force of the track, a deep bass line and looming atmospheric sounds. In this package, you will also find a remix from ISL recordings artist Alexi Delano on the track "Deep exploration".
ISLR013 Kimono - Obey Time
For thousands of years the concept of time has been a matter of debate. The perception and ideas about time is still a controversial subject. Time is used to measure and study a chain of events or as an instrument of controlling a sequence. Scientists us it to measure while every day use of time means being in time for a departing train, leaving from a certain place in a three dimensional space. Modern day man would also argue that scientific and philosophical theories aside, time becomes more important with age. From a psychological perspective, our perception of time seems to alter with age as many people feel a day becomes shorter and shorter. Indeed, a young persons day would be about approximately 1/4,000 of their life while one day to a 55-year-old would be approximately 1/20,000 of their life. Perhaps is time the biggest factor determining the destiny of our lives, it's a necessity but also a burden. Time makes our machines work tirelessly, following orders from a programmed time line. Time dictates our existence in space between point A and point B in which we are supposed to live and spire. Time is the difference between making the right decision or for ever remorse the irreversible. To quote Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, during our predestined life there is "a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace".

ISLR011 Jesper Dahlback - Nyhus EP
"Nyhus" is a term, described by Jesper Dahlbäck, as a "...new kind of house", a refurnished home free from a prejudice state of mind. The thought of letting the same old four walls, roofs and floors open it self up for change and not only change as in the famous political term hammered by the Obama administration a few years ago, but where the actual change really takes place in your own mind. The idea of letting go of the past, to make room for the new within something very old is not new how ever. In the old testament, the greek word "choreo", wich has the meaning "...to make room; be room to receive" is used to describe this phenomenon. The term can also be found in the norse mythologies where in the famous prose Edda, Snorre Sturlasson writes about how by opening the skies and letting the sun shine again, Thor made the lives easier for the people living in Midgard. With this new ISL release, "Nyhus EP", there was an honest intention from its writer to stimulate this "opening of skies" by building something new with in a familiar framework. The sound is well defined, like a text book example, yet in the same time trying to probe invisible rules and borders. The listener will reminisce the past but also get a glance of something new and unpredictable while putting the same listener in a position to judge for her self. What is old, what is new, whom am i?

In his own words, he explains "[my]..repertoire ranges from afrobeat to creepy futufolk, all while making stops at ethnoid techno and finnish schlager". Currently he is also performing his unique blend of Phonogenic sounds live on stage releasing the frequency beasts loose on the audience. This four tracker shows the long history of Mr Salmela's production sound and techniques, all mixed up in the modern shapes of todays electronic music scene.Armed with this depth charge of heavy sub bass and tape distorted bliss, we at Internationa Sound Laboratories are proud to present this production and would also like to warn listeners with weak hearts. ISLR009 Dungeon Acid - House Of Correction
Dungeon Acid is the project of Jean-Louis Huhta, a long time colleague and friend of ISL recordings label boss Jesper Dahlbäck. This three tracker is derived from extracts of a live performance in Malmoe Sweden 2010. All sounds have been made live in front of a live audience, here and there the crowds chanting bleeds into the microphone. The recording has then undergone extensive analysis at the ISL studios and certain enhancements have been made. Jean Louis Huhta, also known from the Brommage Dub project together with Jesper Dahlbäck, shows through this performance his skills as a musician in the frontlines of electronic music science. His career spans over 25 years of music composing and performing as an artist and musician. This is his first contribution to ISL recordings. The main track, "House Of Correction", has also been remodified by label partner Cari Lekebusch who should not be unknown in the scene of electronic music of today. His rework of this unique capture of this improvised composition takes the sound of Dungeon Acid further deep down and into the unexplored territories of sounds and science. http://www.myspace.com/jeanlouishuhta http://www.idealrecordings.com
ISLR008 Dub Dummies - Mantra
ISLR008 Dub Dummies - Mantra International Sound Laboratories is proud to present the next release in our product line, Dub Dummies - Mantra. From the laboratory in Buenos Aires comes this fresh research result, carefully developed by two of Argentinas finest sound scientists Christian Hainich and Juan Manuel Castelo. With their backgrounds, Mr castelo having studied electronic music composition and Mr Hainich coming from studies in bio technology, it is safe to say that this is a top class product and that this is a proof of their true skills as audio engineers. After a successful evening at the the Arena club in Berlin, ISL recordings decided to initiate a tight and immersed collaboration with this Argentinian duo and it is truly an honor to finally present this package. In the package are also included a remix by none less than Phil Kieran from Ireland. Mr Kieran should be widely known to most people in the business. Mr Kireans output shows an impressive list of achivements such as Cocoon, Electric Deluxe, Snork Enterprises as well as his own imprint, Phil Kieran Recordings. Also, Jesper Dahlbäck, the label boss himself delivers yet another intrepetation of the title track wich uses a slightly rewritten lead melody played by a self oscillating notch filter. http://www.myspace.com/islrecordings http://www.myspace.com/dubdummies http://www.myspace.com/philkieran
Jesper Dahlback - Samba Oj
ISLR007 Jesper Dahlback - Samba OJ Finally, with the arrive of summer and heat, we here at International Sound Laboratories are proud to present our little midsummer present in the form of a four track ep called Samba Oj. Traditional swedish midsummer activities usually incorporate dancing around a "stång" or pole. This time we thought of mixing between the traditional brazillian dance "samba" by celebrating the longest day with our speacially developed samba midsummer dance. We held a little "field test" after our office closed last weekend and it was a real success! Actually it worked out so well that one of our receptionists got a broken ankle! In the package we have included the original Samba Oj experiment for you to evaluate on your own as well as two interpretations and an alternative "dance" called "The Cha cha". The interpretations are presented by Tiger Stripes, known for his works on Drumcode, Get Physical and Ibadan among other labels and Phonogenic, alsoknown for releases on Mood Music, Cocoon Recordings and Dieb Audio.Released on Internatonal Sound Laboratory 21st June 2010 on Beatport exclusive!
Alexi Delano & Tony Rohr - Wait What
For years there was a big question mark concerning psycho acoustic interference of certain dance music oriented productions. Reports on unexpected frequencies having abnormal effects on some people came from our Berlin office as well as our office in Kuala Lumpur. We turned to our colleagues in Brooklyn New York and asked for a lab test on low frequency clusters of phase shifting twin-t oscillators. The results were stunning. It showed us that no less than 69.5% of the 0 - 75 Hz frequency register had a major impact on the test subjects. Physical effects such as increased heart rate, flushed cheeks and impulsive movements were observed.Professors T. Rohr and A. Delano has proven the theory by feeding subjects in an laboratoty enviroment with these kind of sound waves and getting instant results every time. Just to be sure of the authenticity of these experiments, samples where sent Dr J.Selway, working out from an independent research lab of New York. We are pleased to know that Professor Rohr and Delano are nominated forthe Nobel Disco Prize 2012.Release date May 18th.
Kebacid - Rippes Dreams
By Jori Hulkkonen: They came from humble beginnings but with a noble cause - and a dream. A dream that spawned a series of releases taking the sound of acid to its fourth decade. Limited, yet extremely focused output has lead music critics to cite Kebacid being synonymous with musical terms as versatile as "acid", "ACID" and "acieeeeed". Kebacid, naturally, are none other than Sweden's Jesper Dahlbäck and Finland's Jori Hulkkonen, who share a combined acid history of over forty years -not to mention techno, deephouse, rave or synth. Curiously enough, it has always been acid (and kebabs -and recently falafels) that has brought our heroes together year after year, may it be a new studiosession as Kebacid, a performance of Jori's Acid Symphony Orchestra, or just another k-k-krazy back-to-back DJ session. On this release the Kebacid phenomenon continues to explore the ancient traditions of Finnish foodculture (Egg Pizza), inner mind of DJ/hairdresser (Rippe's Dreams), and an old Swedish children's fable about a man on an everlasting task to fix a chimney (Chimney Acid).Remarkably, this is the first time a Kebacid release comes with a remix, and we are very happy it is by none other than the almighty Thomas P Heckmann.Release date: March 23rd
Cari Lekebusch - Blood Lines
The fourth release of International Sound Laboratory presentsa new production signed Cari Lekebusch, familiar to manyas one the early profiles of technologial sound resarch in sweden. The package contains three original lab tests, allof which carries Mr Lekebuschs's obvious quality of sound.Since the beginning of the 1990's the unmistakable hihat patterns and FM styled bass sounds has been trademarks of Cari Lekebusch. From the gritty analouge experiments on his own label Hybrid productions to the high society jazz of Mr Barth, all of his productions remains in the top class layer of techno music history. This work, titled "Blood lines", is another proof of a man in the front lineof sound architecture. Incorporated in the package is a intrepetation of "For whom they toll" by another swedish veteran, Joel Mull, a long time colleague of the ISL. Mull, whos list of merits can be made long as well, takeson the work with the fingerspitzengefuhl he is known for.Mr Mull can also be heard on the recent releases of Drumcode and Truesoul.
ADJD - Galactic Suite
ISL recordings is proud to present the third release of the label called Galactic suite by the scientist dream team Alexi Delano & Jesper Dahlbäck. During a short visit in Stockholm, Delano was able to sneak down to the labs of ISL and create these experiments together with Dahlbäck. This resulted in suite of six parts, where the first three parts is released as the Galactic Suite. The pieces contains heavy bass frequencies carefully crafted for powerful sound converters. During tests in the studio it was found that these frequencies resembles similar frequencies of the bi-drifting subpulse drift pattern of pulsar J0815+0939. These frequencies is known to go as low as 0.0075 Hz. To be audioble to human ears, the Galactic suite is only working at the higher harmonics but will still give the listener an insight of the tonal systems of the galactic pulsars.Thank you for your attention!
Jesper Dahlback - Dash One
The second release on International Sound Laboratories is a collection of experiments made at Globe studios by label founder Jesper Dahlbäck. The samples included are called Jelly, Clean Up and Dash One. Dash One is the result of mixing an reversed MS20 pulse wave into a convulsion reverberator. This sample was also sent down to Berlin and Pär Grindvik who analysed its contents and delivered an interpretation of the original, the Grindvik Outboard You Remix.Pär Grindvik is also running Stockholm LTD and Islands & Islets and is doing a lot of productive work at the moment. His works include productions on Nic Fanciulli's label Saved records and Adam Beyers Drumcode as well as remixes for Fever Ray, Alexi Delano and Gary Beck. The track Jelly is a percussive tribal groove feauturing a modulated stereo panning computer controlled delay. It works by shifting short bursts of sinewaves to the left and right respectively with a great deal of finesse. Clean Up is a track made for special brain investigation and to understand neural circuits by sending ultra low frequencies onto the research target. The complete package will be released exclusively on www.beatport.com 20th of November 2009.Thanks for your attention.
Delano, Rohr & Dahlback - Curly Wurly
Delano, Rohr & Dahlbäck - Curly Wurly Done in a hotel room one hour before going to a show in Herford Germany, this is the successful collaboration between Alexi Delano, Jesper Dahlbäck and Tony Rohr. While a taxi was waiting by the hotel lobby, a cd was burned and the track was played at the party the same night. Now it is the first release on International Sound Laboratory, a new label founded by Jesper Dahlbäck. The first releasecontains the original mix as well as three independent mixes done by each of the producers involved. This is the first time you will be able to tell the production differences between these artists. Alexi Delano uses his super lowbass frequency, carefully crafted and mastered thru the ISL recordings mastering facilities. Jesper Dahlbäck uses a well knownaudio source, the SH101, to amplify certain areas of the audio spectrum while Tony Rohr makesuse of the special digital algorithmic techniques he has developed in his studio in New York city.Enjoy!
